Why Will the ITV Hub Not Be Available for Some Devices?

ITV are working on delivering improvements to the ITV Hub application which means that the technology that is required will not be supported by older devices. The update brings core improvements such as improvements to picture quality, more content and increased content protection. The upgrades to the application will bring these features to your device and if you currently use one of the below devices, the ITV Hub will be no longer available:

When Will ITV Hub Become The Streaming Service ITVX?

It’s expected that ITV Hub will transform into the streaming service ITVX in November. There are a number of key upgrades such as moving from around 15,000 hours of content compared to the 4,000 hours that are currently available on the ITV Hub. ITV Hub is currently usually available on a number of devices such as Freesat Smart TVs, Freeview Play Boxes, Amazon Fire TV and Roku. ITVX will offer most content for free with adverts included as well as a premium tier that adds BritBox.

Please be aware that the mentioned devices that currently do not support the ITV Hub upgrade will not support ITVX. ITV’s plan is that all devices that can use the ITV Hub to be able to use ITVX seamlessly.

Is ITVX A New Contender in the Subscription Free Vs Subscription Based Battleground?

We recently released an article on our take on Netflix’s loss of subscribers and why this may be the case. With ITVX pushing for a larger stake in the subscription-free streaming space – this could be bad news for Netflix. To recap, the reasons why ITVX could cause an additional stir in the streaming space are as follows:

  • Cost of living prices – people want to move to subscription free to save on monthly bills.
  • Subscription-free services are getting much better in terms of diversity of content.
  • Market saturation with certain streaming companies getting traffic because they have the rights to certain shows.
  • You are able to subscribe to whatever you want on some subscription-free services and you are able to add a subscription to your package if you want to do so.
